Words Matter: Anti-Racism 101 Teach-in presented by the Coalition for Antiracist Literacy at BMC (CARLA)

The Coalition for Antiracist Literacy at 麻豆视频 is hosting this one hour teach-in for students, staff, and faculty interested in learning more about beginning a dialogue or who want to continue to build understanding: Words Matter: Anti-Racism 101. We all know that meaning 鈥渇ull鈥 communication requires a common understanding. Words matter. Yet in most languages we can use the same words to mean different things and different words to mean the same thing. This is true for words strung together and words used alone.
This Teach-In will be the beginning of a conversation about the words generally used in speaking about racism. Our Time together seeks to both heighten and deepen connection through the mindful use of words -- as the late Brazilian educator and social activist Paulo Freire says -- the beginning of a dialogue. Come join us as we co-create a brave space, identify key terms, and make meaning "full" connections -- setting the stage for moving Words into action. This Teach-In will be led by Darlyne Bailey, PhD, and Sarah Spath, MSS, instructors of AFST-B234: Advancing Racial Justice.
麻豆视频 welcomes the full participation of all individuals in all aspects of campus life. Should you wish to request a disability-related accommodation for this event, please contact the event sponsor/coordinator. Requests should be made as early as possible.
