Because spirituality is at the center of existence for many people and its reach is so broad, it is ideally suited to be integrated into responsible and respectful approaches to therapeutic intervention with clients. This training will provide practitioners/supporters/workers with a way of navigating the faith and spirituality of those they serve within an overall context of integrated health. Particular attention will be given to the practices of spiritual assessment, spiritual support/skill building, and connecting people to external resources.

As we collaborate with our clients on their healing journeys, we are afforded an opportunity to become better holistic practitioners and educators.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Increase awareness of the role of spirituality/faith for those receiving support;
  2. Identify the challenges and opportunities of providing spiritual support;
  3. Learn the formats and tools available to those offering spiritual support/skill-building;
  4. Gain knowledge and strategies for connecting people to other spiritual resources.

This workshop is designed for beginner-intermediate level clinicians.

Instructor:

Dave Eckert, MDIV CPRP, is the Director of Intersect, an initiative within Access Services that supports those at the intersection of faith and mental illness through consultation, training and the fostering of collaboration between faith communities and mental health providers. He has spent 17 years working for Access Services within various roles, including Director of a Mobile Psychiatric Rehabilitation program, and agency Chaplain. In addition, Dave has been in the role of Associate Pastor of Grace Community Church in Chalfont, PA for the last 12 years. Dave currently serves on the Boards of PAPRS (Pennsylvania Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services) and the Lakeside Educational Network.
